This blog post is about my first introduction to Unity and my first Homework task of making a "Marble Run" minigame. The picture below is my first character design, very basic but since most of the limbs are made out cubes (extended and stretched), it works quite well.

My very first creation in class using Unity was a small cube character.

My next major task was figuring out what each button does and what are the main keyboard shortcuts to work with. With some basic skills learnt, our class got shown a presentation on simple games, one being a pachinko machine. I notably know this to be a marble run board game. Down below will be some examples of pachinko machines around the world and my own experience with them.

A penny falls machine in Dreamland Margate. Having recently been, I still remember the basic game mechanics.

An old variation of a penny falls amusement game.

My continued process of my marble run game.

A homemade version of a marble run toy.

An example of a marble playset I used to create levels with as a child. I used this for inspiration.

These pictures all depict different variations of pinball, marble run and pachinko machines. The picture to the left is one toy I loved collecting as a child and kept making new courses all the time. The Unity pictures are some parts of my progress, I had an original pachinko machine file but it got corrupted and so I had to restart my work.
My original design had funky green, blue and purple colours which worked well with the gameplay. My new design however is bland and I hope to make it much more exciting in my spare time. Much more like the examples on this page.
I felt quite confident when making the basic shapes and after looking at inspiration, I knew that with more practice over the weekend, I would know what to do in future lessons. I have not worked in Unity before but I have enjoyed using Maya in the past two years. Some of the controls are the same and I enjoy using the software.
