The game Bastion, of which me and Anthony chose to document about.

An example of some in-game footage of what me and Anthony were studying from.

The Hero's story and their journey is a major lore structure that many fantasy and adventure films follow, it allows the makers to pick and choose specific moments that their characters will come across and succeed or fail from it. The main character, whether that be Eustace from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair or Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them.
Both of these characters start off as simple, normal civilians but as the story progresses, they each go through change and discover who and what they are meant to do. One becomes more aware of his friends feelings and the other uses what he knows to not only save his creatures but also his new home.
To properly analyze this newfound way of storytelling is to split into groups and talk about existing games and note their story structure t see whether their main characters follow the Hero's journey.
Bellow are some mind map posters which each talk about Bastion, Mass Effect and The Last of Us. We decided as a table to split up into pairs, use sticky notes and sharpie pens to write out what we could see from the footage we had on aula.

Two close up images of my map and some clearer shots on important information.

Bastion was my personal choice since the graphics and ideas shown seemed more of what I'm used to. Fantasy has always been my favourite theme and I encouraged my group partner to make sure to check for the smallest character differences as these are what make the main character eventually become the hero in many stories. Changes could include: Weapon upgrades, collecting items, meeting new friends or traveling to new/old places.
Me and Anthony both agreed on Bastion as it was the shortest run time but also the most relatable. We decided to make a diagram similar to a washing line, the events would be on tags hanging on said line in each timestamped category.
Pink was from 0.00 to 1.00, this saw the main character wake up from slumber and venture forth to find a mystical town accompanied by monsters. They picked up a weapon from the market and uses their hammer to break down walls. Each coloured sticker has a time stamp and each smaller notes on the line are for specific important events or showcasing new abilities/events.

Group 3 has made a Narrative Structure map documented upon "Mass Effect"

Harry and Alex both made their map on Mass Effect, they didn't use as many sticky notes and the other two pairs but with the footage their had of the game they made sure to include all of the important scenes and sequences.  They used different colours to showcase different actions, gameplay moments and characters appearing.

Group 2 has made a Narrative Structure map based upon "The Last of Us"

Joon and Harshil both made their narrative structure map about The Last of Us and decided to include pictures for each important scene depicting said event. Each path or storyline in every timestamp shown has the full players journey and their consequences.

Group 1's Narrative structure map based upon "Bastion".
