Early development sketches of a factory for which the player would shine their torch onto dark areas.

My early sketches of Blinki who would be sad when the light are off but happy when the light are turned back on.

Early sketch of a maze with scary images in bad turns.

Early multi development page of my game jam idea mind map.

This post is about my second game jam experience which I personally enjoyed a bit less but found the idea making better since Blinki was a character who kept our groups spirits up. The last picture above was a large mind map full of lots of different game ideas showcasing light and dark aspects which could be used in our final game plan.

This is my short and sweet GDD for Spotlight, our chosen name idea and gameplay descriptions included.

Blinki's emotional development scale, as the player spent more time in the maze, blinki would get angrier and angrier.

Other character designs of light and dark characters. Bulby with the most colour in the centre was also a favourite.

Spotlight concept art

Spotlight coding

This section mainly includes different versions of our character Blinki and Bulby, they were like the mascot of our game and would interact with your progress. There is also some spotlight art and its coding from Harry.

My version of a maze in adobe illustrator.

Final Maze concept art

A nursery concept idea that would involve the player hiding behind blocks of which Blinki would try to catch you out.

Maze and torch coding

Here is some more concept art and coding work from me and Harry to make the maze and its variations.

Harry giving the spotlight reference image in-game

Here are some pictures of alex m's work, he managed toc create another flashlight for the player to use in our game in a first person mode. Sadly we did not have time to implement this but his work on the factory conveyer belt was great too. Here Blinki would ask you to collect the trophy and when brought back, he would congratulate you for your work.

Harry's descriptions and notes on the spotlight's attributes.

In game Trophy design

This is the end of my game jam post, I do not sadly have footage of the game yet, but i will include some at a later point over the xmas holidays. The last pictures you see above this message are basically the final and in-game photos. The trophy you see is the collecting item a the end of the maze and will also provide a checkpoint for when the player comes back. The maze was edited and made by both harry and Elijah, Harry wrote the coding and scripting and we as a group are glad of their work.
